Travel ban exemptions

What type of exemptions from the travel ban can be requested?

Per paragraph 6 (e) of Annex B of resolution 2231 (2015), the travel ban restriction shall not apply:

  • when the Security Council determines on a case-by-case basis that such travel is justified on the grounds of humanitarian need, including religious obligations; or
  • where the Security Council concludes that an exemption would otherwise further the objectives of resolution 2231 (2015),including where Article XV of the statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is engaged.
     

How to make requests for exemptions from the travel ban?

The requests for exemptions from the travel ban should be addressed to the Security Council Facilitator, Her Excellency Mrs. Vanessa Frazier (Malta), through the Security Council Affairs Division, at the Email address: SC-Resolution2231@un.org.
