Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future
Young people still want families, relationships and a hopeful future — but many feel increasingly unable to realize those aspirations. As the world observes World Population Day on 11 July, a major new United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) survey spanning 73 countries offers fresh insight into the choices shaping demographic trends. Under the theme “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future,” this year’s observance shifts the focus from population numbers to the economic, social and personal conditions that enable young people to build the lives and families they envision.
