Back in May, six innovative public figures joined the battle to push the world towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Each of the new official SDG Advocates committed themselves to pursue the 17 goals on behalf of “peace, prosperity, people, planet, and partnerships.” As we inch closer to the SDG Summit in September, UN News caught up with some of them.

On 2 December, together in South Africa for the Global Citizen Mandela 100 Festival commemorating 100 years since Nelson Mandela's birth, SDG Advocate Co-Chairs Prime Minister Solberg and President Akufo-Addo co-authored an op-ed for South African newspapers to highlight the connection between Mandela's legacy and the SDGs. The op-ed was also published in other outlets around the continent, including in Egypt and Ethiopia, among others.
