30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica
The International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica (11 July) marks one of the darkest chapters of the war that followed the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. More than 8,000 men and teenage boys were brutally murdered by the Bosnian Serb army in the previously declared safe area, after the women, children and elderly were forcibly driven out of the enclave. The massacre was recognized as a genocide by the International Court of Justice. The second annual observance marks the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.
