What happens next?
The United Nations will continue to support Member States in realizing their commitment to pursuing a future free from terrorism. The next review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, coinciding with its 20th anniversary in 2026, offers a unique opportunity for the General Assembly to provide concrete guidance for recalibrating efforts across the United Nations system. In June 2026, during Counter-Terrorism Week when the General Assembly is due to adopt a resolution on the review of the Strategy, the Office of Counter-Terrorism will convene a high-level international conference to take stock of progress and chart the way forward.
