World Oceans Day 2016 was a truly special one here at United Nations headquarters in New York. The day began with a special ceremony on the pier near the sustainable canoe Hokule’a, which has been sailing the seas promoting healthy oceans around the world.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joined the Polynesian-style celebration, asking that we recommit to using the oceans’ gifts “peacefully, equitably and sustainably.”
