Secretary-General to meet with pilots of trailblazing solar powered expedition

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will meet with the pilots and founders of the Solar Impulse, the first solar plane capable of flying day and night without using a drop of fuel that is attempting to circumnavigate the globe, on Monday, 13 June, during the expedition’s stopover in New York City.
The Solar Impulse, an airplane of the size of a 747 with the weight of a car and the power of a small motorcycle, uses no fossil fuels and has no emissions. It is expected to land at JFK airport in New York early Saturday morning. New York will be the 14th stop on the journey which began in Abu Dhabi in March, 2015.
The Secretary-General will meet with the pilots, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, who have so far taken turns at piloting the craft over Asia, the Pacific, and North America. There will be a photo opportunity and there will be short remarks by the Secretary-General, the pilots and the Deputy Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations, Olivier Zehnder.
To attend the Secretary-General’s visit to the Solar Impulse:
4:30pm: Media Arrival
Meeting Point: JFK Airport, Ramada Hotel Entrance (NOTE: This hotel is closed, however, parking is available on-site at this location) Shuttle will bring registered media to the hangar. No drop off by taxis will be allowed close to the Hangar 19.
5.00pm: The Secretary-General will meet with the pilots and founders of Solar Impulse
