United Nations Headquarters in New York observed Earth Hour on Sat., 19 March, by turning off the lights in the Secretariat Building from 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Read Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Earth Hour message:

The Paris Agreement on climate change achieved just a few months ago was a triumph for people and the planet.

But the true test of our ability to unite for the common good begins now.

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time and to confront it, we need to show innovation, conviction and, above all, unity.

We are entering a new era of opportunity, one that can create a better world for our children and generations to come. That era begins now.

WWF’s Earth Hour shows us how we can use an hour of symbolic darkness to allow our collective hope and action shine through.

In 2015, the world set a remarkable agenda on the most complex issues we have ever faced- development that is truly sustainable and climate change.

This year, as the world celebrates the tenth year of Earth Hour, let us remember how far we have come and how crucial it is to keep pressing ahead.

Earth Hour reminds us that while the stakes may be high, our ambition is higher. While the road ahead may be long, each step we take, as individuals and as humanity, brings us closer to the future we desire and that our children truly deserve.

Join me this Earth Hour, 19 March at 8:30 p.m. at earthhour.org and together, let’s shine a light on climate action. This is our time to change climate change.
