Marguerite Dambele, from Mali, nearly died from severe malnutrition when she was 11 months old. “When she first got sick, we were very worried. She was losing a lot of weight and we didn’t know why,” recalls her mother, Makoura Sandugu. Marguerite began getting better after receiving assistance through the African Nutrition Security Partnership (ANSP). An innovative four-year project being implemented by UNICEF with funding from the European Union (EU), ANSP is focused on combating stunting and wasting in Mali, as well as in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Uganda. In all, the project aims to reach 1 million children and 600,000 pregnant and lactating mothers.
