22 September 2025, 14:00 – 16:00

Economic and Social Council Chamber, United Nations Headquarters

At its heart, the 2030 Agenda carries a promise: that everyone, everywhere, would have the opportunity to live in dignity, on a safe and healthy planet. Now more than ever, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) offer solutions to the complex and interconnected challenges of today. Across the globe, stakeholders and countries are demonstrating that progress on SDGs is not only possible —it is already happening, demonstrating that the SDGs are within reach.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2025 reminds us that the SDGs have already transformed millions of lives. But to fully realize their promise, we need to pick up the pace. Currently, 35% of targets with trend data are on track or showing moderate progress. Nearly half are moving slowly, and 18% have seen setbacks.

To reflect on successes that can inform action in the next five years of the 2030 Agenda, the Secretary-General will convene the SDG Moment 2025 in the context of the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, in line with resolution 74/4.

Keeping the promise

The SDG Moment 2025 marks a critical juncture. It is the mid-point of the Decade of Action, the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, and 30 years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. It builds on transformative milestones reinforcing the spirit of multilateralism and shared responsibility to deliver on the 2030 Agenda – from the Ocean Conference, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake, and the Third Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, to the forthcoming Second World Summit for Social Development and UN Climate Change Conference.

Ultimately, the promise of the 2030 Agenda will only be realized if we act—together and now. Whether governments, policymakers, business leaders, civil society, women organizations or youth—we all have a role to play in advancing the SDGs at the national, regional, and global levels.

The SDG Moment is a call to keep the promise: to build a more just, peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world for all.

World Leader’s Panel

The SDG Moment includes an interactive discussion with world leaders from Africa, the Asia and Pacific region, Europe, Latin America and Caribbean and Small Island Developing States to reflect on the progress made on the SDGs and share their strategic insights on what must be achieved to reach the 2030 Agenda milestone.

Multi-Stakeholder Panel

Momentum toward the central promise of leaving no one behind is driven by the leadership of diverse communities, civil society and business, youth, women and persons with disabilities, who bring lived experience and innovation to the forefront. The multi-stakeholder panel will convene changemakers and thought-leaders to inspire accelerated action and targeted investments to ensure that development shapes a just and inclusive future.
