Empire Formulary Changes
Empire and Aetna use a preferred drug formulary which is a list of generic and preferred brand drugs that is distributed to participating pharmacies and providers and is subject to periodic review and modification by Empire and Aetna. The drug list is a list of medicines your plan covers. A team of independent doctors and pharmacists reviews the list regularly to make sure covered drugs are high quality, safe, and work well.Your doctor is encouraged to prescribe generic-equivalent drugs as appropriate when possible and to prescribe drugs from the preferred drug formulary when prescribing brand-name drugs. Prescription drugs listed on the formulary exclusions list are excluded. As these updates may affect the prescription
drugs you take, please be sure to check out the list of changes.
What should you do when you find your drugs on the exclusions list?
Talk to your doctor!
If your current medication requires a drug coverage review, ask your doctor if a covered alternative may
work for you. Let your doctor know you may have to pay 100 percent of the cost of your current medicine.
