MoU network

MoU universities

The universities that have signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations on cooperation in the training of language professionals for the competitive examinations for language positions are referred to as “MoU universities”. Collectively they make up the “MoU network”.

Associated membership agreements

Universities that do not fully qualify to become an MoU university, but have the potential to support the long-term succession planning needs of the United Nations, may be invited to enter an associate membership agreement.  Institutions receive the status of university "associated" with the MoU network and are regularly invited to participate as observers in the activities of the network.

MoU Conferences

Purposes

Members of the “MoU network” meet periodically with representatives of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management to:

  • Review collaboration within the MoU network and propose ways to strengthen and improve it;
  • Share initiatives and innovations in the training of language professionals and trainers;
  • Report on the outcomes of outreach and joint training activities;
  • Discuss and agree on ways to bring the academic training of language professionals closer to the needs of the United Nations.

 

Past MoU Conferences

1. The first conference (3 and 4 May 2011) was hosted by the University of Salamanca (Spain)

 

2. The second conference (3 and 4 May 2012) was hosted by the University of Mons (Belgium)

 

3. The third conference (22-24 April 2013) was hosted by the Shanghai International Studies University (China)

 

4. The fourth conference (16 and 17 April 2015) was hosted by the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia (Russian Federation)

 

5. The fifth conference (20 and 21 April 2017) was hosted by the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management at the United Nations Headquarters in New York

 

6. The sixth conference (2 and 3 May 2019) was hosted by the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (United States of America)

 

7. The seventh conference (17 to 19 May 2021) was hosted by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Africa, stationed in Beirut (Lebanon).
