Assistant Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management
Cherith Norman Chalet
On 4 March 2021, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Cherith Norman Chalet of the United States as Assistant Secretary‑General for General Assembly and Conference Management in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management. Ms. Chalet took up her official functions on 12 April 2021.
Ms. Chalet brings many years of experience in foreign policy and international issues and has considerable knowledge and involvement in the United Nations intergovernmental machinery.
Having served as ambassador and representative to the General Assembly and its related Committees, the Security Council and to the funds and programmes, Ms. Chalet has held several senior management roles within the United States Mission to the United Nations, most recently as Deputy Permanent Representative and Ambassador for United Nations Management and Reform, with primary responsibility on United Nations reform matters.
Before joining the United States Mission, Ms. Chalet served in Washington, D.C., as a senior legislative liaison between the State Department and the United States Appropriations and Budget Committees and members of Congress. She was previously a Constituent Service Representative for a member of Congress.
Ms. Chalet holds a Bachelor of Arts in history with a minor in political science from Bob Jones University.
