Pass and ID Unit :
The road to the United Nations Headquarters premises starts at the Pass and Identification office. This dedicated staff of Security and General Service personnel process and issue thousands of passes each year. The pass office is always challenged, especially during special conferences, when the demand for passes mushrooms. The staff has always risen to the challenge, and continues to be a critically important arm of the Security and Safety Service.
The normal opening hours for the Pass & ID Unit are: Monday to Friday: 9 a.m to 2 p.m.

During the General Assembly, General Debate the opening hours for the Pass and ID Unit differs. Please check the official Information Circular (issued for the GA) for the opening hours.
Procedure for lost ID Card:
1. If a grounds pass is determined to be lost or stolen, the holder must immediately report it to UN Security at 212-963-6666 or the Pass Office at 212-963-7533. After which the requestor must obtain a new SSS-160, 160/A, 160/B, or SG-32, SG-34, SG-36, SG-37, SG-38 form from their respective authorizing offices (Executive Office - if it’s a staff pass or UN Protocol – if it’s a delegation pass). After obtaining the proper pass request form, the requestor must report the pass missing or stolen to the Special Investigations Unit.
2. The staff member must personally take the completed form that has been duly signed by the authorized signatory to the Special Investigations Unit of the Security and Safety Service, Room GA-1B-052. The circumstances regarding how the UN ID was lost will be recorded by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) on a “Lost Grounds Pass Report Form.”
3. A member of the Special Investigations Unit will sign and affix the Investigation Unit’s official stamp to the report. The report along with the completed SSS-160 will then be scanned and forwarded from SIU to the OIC of the Security and Safety Services' Pass and ID Office.
4. The staff member will be given the original copy of the SIU Lost Pass Report Form, along with their duly authorized SSS-160 form, and requested to present both forms in person to the Pass and ID Office, located at 420 45th Street, to be processed for a replacement ID.
