About AFICS/NY
The Association of Former International Civil Servants in New York (AFICS/NY) was founded at United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) in 1970 with strong support by UN Secretary-General U Thant and subsequent Secretaries General. A handful of members then, now with close to 3,000 in the USA and many countries world-wide.
* AFICS/NY has a Governing Board, that includes the following Officers: President, two Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer. There is also an Office Assistant and a Librarian who manages our Library of books written by retirees and available to members.
* Has six Standing Committees with Co-Chairs and membership drawn from the Governing Board and also the membership-at-large.
* Is a member of the UN Health and Life Insurance Committee at UNHQ (HLIC).
* Follows the ACABQ and Fifth Committee on matters of interest.
* Is an NGO recognized by UN's Department of Global Communications (formerly UN/DPI).
* Is a founding member of FAFICS (the Federation of Associations of Former International Civil Servants).
* Represents FAFICS at related UN meetings in New York.
* Attends or participates in other intergovernmental and NGO meetings on behalf of FAFICS.
