Donations to help those in need

The AFICS/NY Charities Foundation, founded in 1997, provides support to qualified former international civil servants, including members of AFICS/NY, who encounter temporary personal crises not covered by other means. This assistance can include aid in acquiring or upgrading skills for post-retirement activities, or supporting humanitarian endeavors aligned with the United Nations Charter. Qualified individuals are those who have served locally or internationally and receive a pension benefit from the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), along with their dependents and survivors. This includes current or former spouses or domestic partners, and dependent children.

The Charities Foundation offers grants ranging from $1,000 to $6,000, based on review and approval by the Assistance Review Committee (ARC). Since its establishment, the Foundation has awarded 105 grants, totaling $189,640, always operating with empathy and strict confidentiality.

We work closely with the UNJSPF’s Emergency Fund, reviewing cases referred by them. If a larger grant is needed, we may also forward cases to the Emergency Fund for further consideration. Please note that these grants are not intended to supplement pensions.

You may be eligible to apply if you or a former colleague:

  • Are facing financial hardship due to specific circumstances,
  • Wish to enhance skills for post-retirement activities, or
  • Want to support a humanitarian cause aligned with the United Nations Charter.

To apply, please submit your request—including the purpose, the specific amount needed, and detailed supporting documentation—to the Foundation through the AFICS/NY office at afics@un.org, or by mail to:
