Peace process – Settlement activity
France fully supports the continuation of the negotiations under way and all gestures that could contribute to their success. In this respect, it welcomes the courageous decision by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to release 26 Palestinian prisoners, in accordance with the commitments made when the negotiations resumed.
France, which calls on the parties to refrain from any gesture that could undermine the peace process, condemns the Israeli authorities’ approval of the construction of new homes in the West Bank settlements, including East Jerusalem.
It reaffirms that settlement activity is illegal under international law, constitutes an obstacle to a just peace based on the two-State solution and fuels tensions on the ground.
