CDP organizes session at the Asia-Pacific Regional Review Meeting in preparation for LDC5

On 31 August (11:15 - 13:15 Geneva time), the CDP Secretariat will hold Session 3: “Supporting sustainable graduation: making graduation irreversible and a steppingstone to achieve the SDGs” during the Asia-Pacific Regional Review Meeting in preparation for LDC5. This session will provide key perspectives from graduating and recently graduated countries from the Asia-Pacific region to the LDC5 PrepCom Intergovernmental process related to improved and concrete support to graduating and graduated countries. Prof. Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, CDP Vice Chair, will co-chair the session. Mr. Taffere Tesfachew, Leader of the CDP Subgroup on LDCs, will moderate the session and CDP member, Mr. Debrapriya Bhattacharya will serve as panelist.

The High-level Asia-Pacific Regional Review Meeting on the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) in preparation for the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) will be held in Geneva from 30 August to 2 September 2021 and is jointly organized by the Government of Bangladesh, the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP). The meeting will undertake a comprehensive appraisal of the implementation of the IPoA by the Asia-Pacific LDCs and their development partners, share best practices and lessons learned, and identify obstacles and constraints encountered as well as actions and initiatives needed to overcome them; and identify effective international and domestic policies as well as new and emerging challenges and opportunities and the means to address them.
