Global Counter-Terrorism Conference of Women Parliamentarians

A Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians was held in Doha, State of Qatar on 26 and 27 June 2024 under the theme “The Role of Women Parliamentarians in the Development, Implementation, and Oversight of Counter-Terrorism and Prevention of Violent Extremism Legislation, Policies, and Strategies.” 

The hybrid event gathered women from national parliaments of Member States in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, which are members of the Counter-Terrorism Coordination Mechanism for Parliamentary Assemblies. Leading experts from international research and academic institutions, civil society organizations, and relevant UN agencies will also participate.

The conference focused to:

  • promote the equal and meaningful participation of women parliamentarians at all stages of development of national laws and policies related to countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism conducive to terrorism (CT/PCVE). 
  • strengthen the role of parliamentarians in the development, implementation, and oversight of gender-sensitive and gender-responsive CT/PCVE legislation, policies and strategies.
  • facilitate the establishment of the CT/PCVE Network of Women Parliamentarians. 

The event was organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism with the support of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar.
