The Countering Terrorist Travel Programme Completes Successful Deep-Dive with The Gambia

The Countering Terrorist Travel Programme (CT Travel) and its Partners successfully completed a virtual deep-dive assessment with the Gambia from 5 to 8 October. It was opened and closed by the Gambian Minister of the Interior the Honourable Yankuba J.N. Sonko. The deep dive was a gap analysis exercise with The Gambia which identified areas for technical assistance in implementing the advance passenger information (API) and passenger name record (PNR) programme across four pillars: legal, operational, transport industry engagement, and technical. An API/PNR roadmap will be developed as a next step.

The CT Travel Programme, a flagship global initiative of UNOCT, assists Member States in building their capabilities to detect and counter terrorists and serious criminals by using API/PNR, to improve the use of international databases with known and suspected terrorists and criminals, such as with INTERPOL, and enhance international information exchange, in accordance with Security Council resolutions 2178 (2014), 2396 (2017), and 2482 (2019) and relevant privacy laws.

In an “All-of-UN” partnership with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technology, and INTERPOL, the Programme comprehensively assists Member States in legislative, operational, transport industry engagement, and technical areas.
