The CEIRPP organized a virtual event live streamed on UN Web TV on the margins of CSW69 titled : “The destruction of the health system in Palestine: A lifeline in peril for women and girls”. The event focused on the war on Gaza – and the latest resumption of attacks by Israel- whose victims are over 70% women and children. The all-female panel saw the participation of Ms. Tlaleng Mofokeng, the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, who highlighted how medical infrastructures and health workers have been targeted by Israel’s military campaign. Ms. Mofokeng decried the deficit of international attention to the plight of women and children in Gaza, who have been disproportionately impacted by the war. In addition, two medical doctors who served in Gaza to assist hundreds of injured patients recounted the heavy psychological and emotional toll paid by mothers and medical personnel, citing the dozens of cases of children who died of hypothermia living in tents or who could not be saved for lack of medical supplies or due to malnourishment. The meeting also featured a video of the Director General of the Palestinian Center for Legal Research, Consulting and Protection for Women and her story of survival during the war in Gaza. The meeting highlighted the human toll of the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the war on Gaza and called for accountability.
