Panel Discussion “1948 – 2024: The Ongoing Palestinian Nakba”, New York 17 May 2024

The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People held a commemorative Panel Discussion “1948-2024: The Ongoing Palestinian Nakba” on 17 May 2024 (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) in the ECOSOC Chamber, at United Nations Headquarters. The event, organized as a panel discussion examined the historical context of the 1948 events and the ongoing process of the Nakba over the past 76 years, culminating in the current war on Gaza. It also presented testimony on the current conflict and highlight international obligations and responsibilities.

The ongoing Nakba throughout all parts of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the grave situation in the Gaza Strip, continues to demand the attention of the international community and international action to end this historic injustice, to end Israel’s illegal occupation, and to assist the Palestinian people to realize their inalienable rights.

The panelists included Phyllis Bennis, Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies, Washington, D.C.; Ardi Imseis, Assistant Professor of Law at Queen’s University, Ottawa, and Karameh Kuemmerle, Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Poems was recited by Palestinian poet Zeina Azzam.
