Highlights
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Israel and now Lebanon, has precipitated a severe humanitarian crisis, with a catastrophic toll on children and families who have been forced to flee their homes under extreme circumstances. Despite facing substantial challenges, including relentless military operations, logistical constraints, and power disruptions, UNICEF has maintained its presence, delivering essential aid such as safe water, soap and cleaning materials, medical supplies, and nutrition support.
Furthermore, shockwaves from the unprecedented death and destruction in the Gaza Strip are now threatening to plunge the entire region into a chasm of violence with unimaginable consequences.
In late September 2024, conflict sharply escalated in Lebanon, as the nation witnessed its deadliest period since 2006, with Beirut and the southwestern part of the country enduring intense attacks. While the Gaza Strip remains the epicentre of regional violence, the rapidly expanding war across the Middle East signifies a looming humanitarian and human rights catastrophe that could engulf the region.
