Unprecedented Levels of Factional Violence in Gaza
Following the 19 May ceasefire between Fatah forces and Hamas-affiliated Executive Support Forces (ESF), intense factional fighting resumed in the Gaza Strip on 9 June. By 15 June, Hamas had assumed full control over the Gaza Strip. Internal violence resulted in the deaths of 188 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the injury of 840. This represents a three-fold increase in the number of Palestinians killed as a result of internal violence when compared with May 2007 (63)
