Signing Ceremony for the Grassroots Project For Palestinian People Funded by Japan

The Project for providing feedstuff production machines in Deir Al-Balah

A Grant Contract for the Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was signed today by Mr. Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA, and the representative of Al-Ahlyia Association for the Development of Palm and Dates, at the UNDP Headquarter in Gaza for a total amount of US$82,200.

Al-Ahlyia Association for the Development of Palm and Dates will use the fund to install the feedstuff production machines in the fodder production sector of Al-Ahlyia Association. It aims to use the equipment to provide cheap fodder stably to the livestock breeders in Deir al Barah and surrounding areas. The most direct beneficiaries from the project shall be 700 breeder’s households.

Mr. Okubo congratulated Al-Ahlyia Association for the Development of Palm and Dates Deir Al-Balah and wished them success in their project. He emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities. Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately US$1.7 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010. (END)
