15.  Introducing the report of the Secretary-General on the right of peoples to self-determination (A/68/318), he said that the report contained an outline of the relevant jurisprudence of the Human Rights Committee and of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and a summary of the developments leading to the consideration of the matter by the Human Rights Council, including by its special procedures and the International Fact-Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

57.  China supported the just cause of the Palestinian people in their struggle to regain their legitimate national rights, the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian State based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the admission of the State of Palestine to international organizations. It hoped that the international community would continue to work hard to achieve lasting peace in Middle East.
