ANNEX

Message dated 25 May 1990 from the President of the Democratic

Republic of Madagascar addressed to the Secretary-General of

the United Nations

At the time when the Security Council is discussing in Geneva the thorny Israeli-Palestinian problem, the Democratic Republic of Madagascar wishes to condemn forcefully the criminal act perpetrated against Palestinian workers in Gaza, which led to a terrible massacre and abominable violence in the occupied territories.

This action leads us to believe that peace in the Middle and Near East is being seriously threatened at a time when desire for a major change in favour of a policy conducive to dialogue, establishment of harmonious relations, concord and understanding is becoming manifest in several parts of the world.

We therefore request you to ask the international community in general and the great Powers in particular to bring pressure to bear on Israel to evacuate all the occupied territories as soon as possible and to refrain from sending there the thousands of Jews who have emigrated from the Soviet Union.
