STATEMENT

Submitted by the World Federation of Democratic Youth – international

youth non-governmental organization in category I consultative status

with the Economic and Social Council

on:

The violation of human rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories

The World Federation of Democratic Youth:

Noting that the year 1987 marks the twentieth anniversary of the June 1967 war and the occupation of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights by Israel,

Concerned over the grave and serious quantitative and qualitative increase in the past years in the violation of human rights by the occupation authorities in the occupied Arab territories, including Palestine,

Underlining that despite the numerous United Nations General Assembly resolutions related to the withdrawal of Israel from all occupied Arab territories, inalienable rights of the Palestinian people are not yet respected,

WFDY strongly condemns the inhuman practices by the Israeli occupationist army in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, which are a flagrant manifestation of Israel's violation of human rights,

Appeals to world public opinion to support and extend every assistance to the Palestinian people,

Reaffirms its support for the respect of the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people and for advancing the comprehensive settlement of the Middle East conflict through the convening of an international conference on the Middle East with the participation of all concerned parties including the PLO and the five permanent members of the Security Council with the relevant United Nations resolutions,

Appreciates the constructive efforts made by the United Nations in support of the legitimate rights of the Arab peoples living under illegal Israeli military occupation since 1967,

Recommends that the attention of national communities be drawn to observing the international day of solidarity with the Palestinian people,

Calls upon the United Nations Human Rights Commission to act without delay to put an end to Israel's systematic escalation of the violation of the human rights of the Palestinian and other Arab peoples, and to demand the immediate withdrawal of occupation force from all occupied Arab territories.
