  The meeting was called to order at 5.05 p.m.

    Report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (S/2002/746)

 The President : On behalf of the Council, I welcome the presence of the Secretary-General at this meeting and the one to follow. It is very good that he can join us for these mandate renewals.

  The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

  Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, document S/2002/746.

  Members of the Council also have before them document S/2002/846, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by France.

  I should also like to draw the attention of members of the Council to the following documents:

S/2002/739, letter dated 9 July 2002 from the representative of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General, and S/2002/806, letter dated 22 July 2002 from the representative of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General.

  It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote of the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.

  There being no objection, it is so decided.

  A vote was taken by show of hands.

  The President: The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 1428 (2002).

  The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda.

 The meeting rose at 5.10 p.m.
