Committee delegation visits Dakar, Senegal, 6-7 July 2025

Ahead of the 2025 UN-OIC Conference on the Question of Jerusalem, held in Dakar on 9 July, on 6 and 7 July the Delegation of the UN Palestinian Rights Committee Bureau, headed by Chair Amb. Coly Seck (PR of Senegal), Vice-Chair Amb. Ahmad Faisal Muhamad (PR of Malaysia), Amb. Moreno Guerra (DPR of Cuba) and Amb. Riyad Mansour (Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine) held bilateral meetings with Senegalese counterparts.

On 6 July, the Delegation met with the Foreign Minister of Senegal, Ms. Yassine Fall. This meeting provided an opportunity to assess the current situation in Palestine, in a context of ongoing tensions. The CEIRPP delegation expressed their deep gratitude to Senegal for its consistent and historic commitment to the Palestinian people and shared the Committee’s strategic priorities for the coming months. Minister Fall, for her part, commended the unwavering work and dedication of the Committee, reaffirming the support of the Senegalese government and people for this cause, which remains a priority of Senegal’s diplomacy. The Minister also reaffirmed Senegal’s support for the Committee and stressed the need to preserve Jerusalem’s character as holy to all three Abrahamic faiths.

On 7 July, the Bureau delegation met with the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Senegal, led by its Chair Ms. Fatou Diop Cisse. The Committee Delegation highlighted the importance of the Conference just ahead of the High-Level Conference on the Two-State Solution, as it would focus not only on the situation in Jerusalem, but the wider Occupied Palestinian Territory, and galvanize support in West Africa to create actionable recommendations for the way forward, in order to operationalize and fully implement GA res ES-10/24. Senegalese counterparts reemphasized the country’s strong stance in support of the Palestinian people and its inalienable rights, including to self-determination, exemplified by its holding of the Committee Chair since the body’s inception in the 1970s.

The Delegation also met with the leadership of Cheikh Anta Diop University, led by its Rector Mr. Alioune Badara Kandji, where a minute of silence was observed in honor of the victims in Gaza. Discussions centred on Senegal’s strong mobilization in support of Palestine, grounded in the principles of international law and shared human values.
