UNITED NATIONS PALESTINE COMMISSION
COMMUNICATION RECEIVED FROM THE JEWISH AGENCY
FOR PALESTINE CONCERNING REQUEST FOR HEARING
The following communication, concerning a request for a hearing on the subject of a Provisional Council of Government for the Jewish State, has been received from Mr. Shertok of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE
16 East 66th Street
New York 21, N.Y.
March 9, 1948.
Mr. Karel Lisicky
Chairman, United Nations Palestine Commission United Nations
Lake Success, New York
Dear Mr. Lisicky:
The Jewish Agency officially approached the Commission some 10 days ago with a request to be heard on the subject of a Provisional Council of Government for the Jewish State. We have received instructions Dem the Jewish Agency Executive and the Vaad Leumi in Jerusalem to submit certain proposals to the Commission on the composition of the Provisional Council and the procedure to be followed in its appointment.
We are most anxious to present these proposals to the Commission at the earliest possible opportunity especially as the General Assembly’s Resolution clearly envisages the setting up of these councils of government by April 1, 1948, a date which now impends very closely.
For these reasons I venture to hope that the Commission will arrange to hear our report and proposals at its earliest convenience.
Faithfully yours,
(signed) M. Shertok
