The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met on with youth representatives from the China Foreign Affairs University, during his visit to China. 

 

In his remarks, the President stressed that we live in a world of looming and pressing challenges while noting that there have been glimmers of hope. He encouraged the young people – future diplomats of China – to focus on sustainable development, multilateralism, and climate action. The President also briefed the young people about the priorities in his Presidency of Hope – especially as they relate to young people. He highlighted the importance that he placed on listening to young people, and shared about his Fellowship for HOPE initiative, targeted at young diplomats/officials from under-represented countries, designed to sensitize the Fellows to the workings of the United Nations. He urged the participants to join in the just cause of promoting multilateralism.

 

The students of the China Foreign Affairs University, shared their thoughts on the President’s vision, his Five Rays of Hope, and echoed his call for the inclusion of youth. They expressed their enthusiasm to dedicate themselves to the peace and sustainable development of all nations and raised questions on climate change, biodiversity, recovery from the pandemic, equal access to COVID19 vaccines etc.
