The President of the 76th session of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, met today with a delegation from the European Economic and Social Committee .
The President thanked the delegation for the meeting and briefing him on their work. He also briefed them on the ongoing processes at the General Assembly. President Shahid emphasized the importance of investing in and engaging with youth, ensuring gender parity, and including the most vulnerable in global efforts to rebuild sustainably.
Ms. Christa Schweng, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, extended her gratitude to the President and reiterated the delegation’s organisation’s commitment to promoting multilateralism. She further stressed the need for consensus building to meet the needs of all stakeholders, and enhanced collaboration with members of civil society and businesses. The delegation also reiterated their commitment to working closer with the United Nations to strengthen the participation of civil society in global governance and addressing issues related to climate change, poverty, human rights, and inclusion.
The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
