The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, held today, a coordination meeting with H.E. Ambassador Ronaldo Costa Filho, Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations in his capacity as the incoming President of the Security Council for the month of July 2022.

 

Ambassador Costa Filho briefed the President on the programme of the work of the Security Council during Brazil’s Presidency in July, highlighting its signature events, including two open debates, one on Strategic communications in peacekeeping operations on 12 July and another on Children and Armed Conflict, on 19 July.

 

President Shahid recognized the importance of these topics and commended Brazil’s efforts to keep these issues on the top of the agenda of the Security Council.

 

The discussions also touched on the Security Council reform, the ongoing Ocean conference as well as the conflict in Ukraine and its impact on the world.

 

The meeting took place in the President’s office at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
