Strengthening human security by fostering peaceful coexistence and improving citizen security in three municipalities in the Department of Sonsonate

Duration: March 2008– June 2011
Budget: US$2,399,820
Implementing Agencies: UNDP, UNICEF, WHO/PAHO

After a decade of conflict, the dividends of peace and development were slow to reach vulnerable and marginalized communities in the western Department of Sonsonate. Subsequently, an integrated and multi-stakeholder programme was developed to address the root causes of violence and to bolster economic opportunities; improve access to adequate housing, health and education; and to harness trust and partnerships between communities, the State, and civil society institutions.
