Consideration at the sixty-seventh session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 11th and 24th meetings, on 16 October and 9 November 2012 (see A/C.6/67/SR.11 and 24).

Statements were made by the representatives of Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of).

Some delegations expressed their support for the granting of observer status to the Andean Development Corporation in the General Assembly.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 11th meeting, on 16 October, the representative of Colombia, on behalf of Argentina, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Finland, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of), introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Andean Development Corporation in the General Assembly” (A/C.6/67/L.4). Subsequently, El Salvador and Poland joined in sponsoring the draft resolution. At its 24th meeting, on 9 November, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/67/L.4 without a vote.

Under this draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Andean Development Corporation to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and would request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
