Presentation of the 2021 CDP Report to ECOSOC

On 8 June 2021, Prof. Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, Vice Chair of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), introduced the Committee’s Report on it’s 23rd Session at the Management Meeting (MM) of ECOSOC's 2021 Management Segment, via WebEx. Prof. Fukuda-Parr referred to the various sections in the report and the related recommendations, focusing on the main conclusions, including the triennial review of the least developed country (LDC) category, theme of the Economic and Social Council for 2021, the Voluntary National Reviews, the Committee’s monitoring work on graduated and graduating countries and on ways to improve support. The Vice Chair also referenced the Committee's comprehensive study on the impact of COVID-19 on the LDCs and further stressed the CDP's proposal to adopt the theme of “Expanding productive capacity for sustainable development” as the organizing framework of the new programme of action at the Fifth UN Conference on the LDCs (LDC5).

The Management Segment (formerly called CMM) is integral to ECOSOC’s coordinating role at the heart of the UN development system. Held throughout the year, the Council reviews and approves the latest reports from ECOSOC subsidiary and expert bodies in economic, social, environmental and related fields.
