The Impact of Rapid Technological Change on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals

Senior Economic Affairs Officer Mariangela Parra-Lancourt presented a brief on the World Economic and Social Survey 2018: Frontier Technologies for Sustainable Development at the Informal Meeting of the General Assembly Plenary entitled “Impact of Rapid Technological Change on the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals” today in New York. Convened by María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the 73rd session of the General Assembly,  the informal meeting  allowed for presentations of the outcomes of the third Multistakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals during the 73rd session of the General Assembly, and related reports such as the Survey.  Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination, Fabrizio Hochschild, presented a briefing on the Secretary-General’s Strategy on New Technologies. Ms. Shamika Sirimanne, Director of UNCTAD’s Division on Technology and Logistics presented the Technology and Innovation Report 2018. H.E. Mr. Juan Sandoval, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations presented the conclusions of the STI Forum. Stephanie Rambler, Sustainable Development Officer at DESA, presented the findings of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism.
