The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2018 was launched today in New York by Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, and Dawn Holland, Chief of the Global Economic Monitoring Unit in the Development Policy and Analysis Division of UN/DESA. The report highlights that in 2017, global economic growth reached 3 per cent—the highest growth rate since 2011—and growth is expected to remain steady for the coming year. “While the upturn in global growth is a welcome sign of a healthier economy, it is important to remember that this may come at an environmental cost. This calls for stronger efforts to delink economic growth and environmental degradation,” noted Mr. Liu.

Regional launches will be held in Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Beirut, Geneva, Moscow and New Delhi in the succeeding days.
