
Expert Group Meeting on Emerging Technologies and Sustainable Development
An Expert Group Meeting on Emerging Technologies and Sustainable Development was held in New York on December 14 and 15 to discuss the background, objectives and outline of the World Economic and Social Survey 2018.
Participants included Butch Montes (South Center), Anselm Sanders (Maastricht University), Diana Alarcon, Henry Wei (Google), Lisanne van Wijngaarden (CE-Delft), Jenna Jambeck (University of Georgia), Kevin Gallagher (Boston University), Nicholas Ziebert and Christopher Vickers of Auburn University, Alexander Haider (New School), and Ahmed Mushfiq Mubarak (Yale University). Several focal points from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs also participated, including Joop Theunissen (OESC), Victor Gaigbe-Togbe (Population Division) and Deniz Susar (DPADM).
There were seven substantive sessions over the course of two days, focusing on background papers and the proposed chapters of the Survey.
