1 March The PLO decided to suspend its peace talks with Israel pending the adoption of the desired measures of international protection for the Palestinians in Hebron. (Al-Ittihad)

Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians and injured 12 others during clashes in Hebron and Balata refugee camp.  (Al-Ittihad)

The Israeli authorities released 511 Palestinian detainees from the detention camp of Ansar III and Majido prison.  (Al-Ittihad)

2 March Israeli troops shot dead two young Palestinians in Hebron and a third one died of wounds sustained a day earlier from troops' gunfire.  Fourteen others were injured in the Gaza Strip.  (Al-Ittihad)  Israeli soldiers shot dead a Jewish settler in the West Bank believing that he was a Palestinian gunman.  (The New York Times)

3 March The Israeli authorities released 400 Palestinian detainees from Ansar III detention camp.  Israeli troops shot and injured 36 Palestinians in several locations in the West Bank.  (Al-Ittihad)

4 March Israeli troops shot dead 2 Palestinians during clashes in the Balata refugee camp and two in the Gaza Strip.  (Al-Ittihad)

5 March Israeli troops shot and injured 15 Palestinians during demonstrations in the West Bank. (Al-Ittihad)

In a peace march held in Tel Aviv, some 100,000 Arabs and Jews condemned the massacre in Hebron and called for dismantling the settlements in the occupied territories.  (Al-Ittihad)

7 March Mr. Jacques Neriah, a political adviser to Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin met with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat in Cairo and conveyed to him a message from Mr. Rabin concerning the renewal of peace talks.  (The New York Times)

Israeli troops shot dead 2 Palestinians and injured another 22 in Hebron. In Bethlehem, 5 Palestinians were shot and injured by the Israeli army and 8 Palestinians were injured in Gaza city.  A reporter of the Associated Press  was  also  injured  by  Israeli  troops  in Gaza. (Al-Ittihad)

8 March Israeli soldiers shot dead two Palestinians at an army checkpost in the Gaza Strip.  (Reuters)

9 March Israeli troops shot and injured 9 Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. (Al-Ittihad)

10 March Israeli troops shot dead a 15-year-old boy and injured 8 others in Dier el-Balah refugee camp.  Israeli troops shot and injured 18 Palestinians during  clashes in  Hebron  and  8  others  in  Jabalia   refugee   camp.  (Al-Ittihad)

11 March The Russian Federation Foreign Minister Andrei Kozyrev met with Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in Israel and  with  PLO Chairman Yasser  Arafat  in  Tunis  and  proposed  the   resumption   of   the   Madrid  peace conference.  (Washington Post)

A Palestinian armed youth opened fire on an Israeli military patrol in Khan Younis and injured one soldier.  (The Jerusalem Press)

Israeli authorities prevented Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip  from  reaching  Jerusalem  for the last Friday prayers of Ramadan.  (Al-Ittihad)

13 March The Israeli army shot dead a young Palestinian in Nurshams refugee camp and injured 31 others in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.  (Al-Ittihad)

The Israeli Government banned Kach and Kahane Chai, two ultra-rightwing Jewish organizations, branding them as terrorists.  (Financial Times)

14 March  US  Secretary  of   State   Warren   Christopher   met  in Vladivostok with the Russian Foreign Minister, Andrei Kozyrev, to coordinate positions concerning the resumption of PLO-Israeli negotiations. (Washington Post)

An Israeli delegation headed by the Director-General of the Foreign Ministry met in Tunis with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and handed him a message from Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin concerning the presence of international observers in Hebron.  (Ha'aretz)

A young Palestinian was shot dead in Dayr al-Balah and 14 others were injured during clashes in Gaza.  (Reuters)

15 March The Israeli Foreign Ministry Director-General met in Tunis for several hours with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat.  They discussed the possibility of having international observers in Hebron.  (Ha'aretz)

Israeli  troops  shot and injured 6 Palestinians in Jabalia refugee camp.  (Al-Ittihad)

PLO leaders from the Gaza Strip made an unprecedented visit to Israel's Parliament (Knesset) to ask for the dismantling of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.  (UPI)

16 March Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin met at the White House with President Bill Clinton for several hours.  USA envoy Dennis Ross met in Tunis with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat.  (Reuters)  The Russian Federation Foreign Minister Andrei Kozyrev met in Tunis with PLO Chairman Arafat.  (The New York Times)

The Israeli army shot dead a young Palestinian and injured 16 others in Hebron. Forty Palestinians were injured  by  military gunshots in Jabalia refugee camp.  (Al-Ittihad)

17 March Two armed Palestinians were ambushed and killed by Israeli troops in Khan Younis.  In Jabalia refugee camp, 25 Palestinians  were  shot and injured by Israeli troops.  (The Jerusalem Press)

18 March The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 904 (1994) on the massacre in Hebron, calling for measures to guarantee the safety of the Palestinian civilians throughout the occupied territory.  (SC/5808)

An Israeli soldier shot dead a Palestinian from Gaza during a struggle with the soldier's father who had caught the man stealing a car.  (Reuters)

20 March An Israeli delegation led by Foreign Ministry director Uri Savir arrived in Tunis to meet with the PLO representative.  (The Guardian)

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian in Gaza city and injured 7 others in the Maghazi refugee camp.  (The Jerusalem Press)

21 March Israeli troops shot and wounded 11 Palestinians, including a six-month-old girl, in Hebron.  (Reuters)

22 March Israeli troops killed 4 members of Hamas during an 18-hour gunbattle in Hebron in which Israeli troops used dozens of anti-tank missiles and thousands of rounds of ammunition into a three-story house.  Two Palestinian women, including a pregnant woman, were killed in the shooting. (Reuters)

Israeli troops shot and injured 6 Palestinians in Gaza city.  Two Israelis were  stabbed  and  injured  by a Palestinian youth in Nahal Oz near Gaza. (The Jerusalem Post)

23 March The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People met and adopted its programme of work for 1994.

Palestinian and Israeli negotiators reached an agreement in Tunis which would form the basis for the resumption of the stalled peace talks.  The agreement includes the presence of international observers in Hebron, deploying Palestinian police for the city and deploying joint Israeli-Palestinian patrols.  (The Jerusalem Press)

24 March A one-day conference on the deployment Palestinian police in the future self-governing Palestinian areas was held in Cairo.  Representatives of 23 Governments and the World Bank, in addition to those of Israel and the PLO, attended the meeting.  (UPI)

25 March A Jewish settler shot dead a Palestinian man who was kneeling  in  prayer  by  a highway in southern Israel.  (Reuters)

28 March The Israeli military shot and killed 6 Palestinian activists belonging to the Fatah movement in Jabalia refugee camp.  (The Jerusalem Press)

29 March A young Palestinian was shot dead and 5 others were injured by Israeli troops in Bureij refugee camp.  Thirty Palestinians were shot and injured in the Nablus area by Israeli troops.  (The Jerusalem Press)

30 March Israeli troops shot and injured 31 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.  (TheJerusalem Press)

31 March An agreement on security arrangements for the West Bank town of Hebron (Temporary International Presence in Hebron – TIPH) was reached in Cairo between representatives of the PLO and Israel.  It provided, inter alia, for a lightly armed contingent of 160 persons from Norway, Denmark and Italy.  TIPH personnel will include field observers, office staff and support personnel. (Reuters)

Representatives of Israel and the PLO resumed their negotiations in Cairo on Palestinian self-rule in Jericho and the Gaza Strip.  (The New York Times)

An Israeli man was found stabbed to death in his house in southern Israel.  Israeli police said the man was killed by a Palestinian.  (Reuters)
