  Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.

  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5312th and 5313th meetings, held on 30 November 2005, in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.

  At the 5312th meeting, in accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Ibrahim Gambari, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.

  At the 5313th meeting, the President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S/PRST/2005/57; to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 1 August 2005-31 July 2006 ).
