The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a draft resolution submitted by the Republic of Ireland on the need to achieve comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on relevant UN resolutions, including UN Security Council resolution 2334, and to end the Israeli occupation that began in 1967, including of East Jerusalem.
The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen commended the principled positions of the vast majority of world states which supported the resolution, stating that the fact that the majority of states voted for the resolution constitutes a firm international support for the rights of the Palestinian people and a triumph of the option of peace based on right, justice and the two-state solution.
