AD HOC COMMITTEE ON THE PALESTINIAN QUESTION

SUB-COMMITTEE I

Saturday, 8 November 1947

Convening in public meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. KSAWERY PRUSZYNSKI (Poland), Sub-Committee I this afternoon took up the report of its Working Group on Boundaries.

KAREL LISICKY (Czechoslovakia) called the members’ attention to some factual information submitted by the United Kingdom delegation, which, he said, did not coincide with other data that the Working Group had studied when recommending of the Arab and Jewish States UNSCOP Report.

The Chairman explained that the remarks of the United Kingdom delegation had not been taken into consideration before presentation of the report to the Sub-Committee because he had been anxious to conclude the work of the Sub-Committee as early as possible because of the short time left before the end of the session of the General Assembly. He had, therefore, he continued decided to call the meeting today to let the Sub-Committee discuss the remarks of the United Kingdom delegation.

Mr. J.M. MART1N (United Kingdom) in turn explained that, since his country was not a member of the Working Group, he had taken cognizance of the report only on the 5th of November, and, therefore, had submitted his remarks only yesterday .

HERSCHEL V. JOHNSON (United States) associated himself with the observation made by Mr. Lisicky, suggesting that despite the need for speeding work sufficient attention should be given to the remarks of the United Kingdom delegation.

After some further exchange of views, it was agreed to postpone discussion of the boundaries, and, in the meantime, to take up the question of the City of Jerusalem.
