SUMMARY STATEMENT BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF MATTERS OF WHICH

THE SECURITY COUNCIL IS SEIZED AND OF THE STAGE REACHED

IN THEIR CONSIDERATION

Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, I submit the following summary statement of matters of which the Security Council is seized and of the stage reached in their consideration on 19 March 1949.

12. The Palestine question (see also S/1273, S/1279 and S/1289).

During the period 12 to 19 March 1949, the following documents were distributed to the Council:

(a) Cablegram dated 11 March 1949 from the Acting Mediator for Palestine to the President of the Security Council concerning alleged military operations by Israeli forces in the Southern Negev. (S/1285)

(b) Cablegram dated 13 March 1949 from the Acting Mediator for Palestine to the President of the Security Council concerning alleged military operations by Israeli forces in the Southern Negev. (S/1286)

(c) Letter dated 14 March 1949 from the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the President of the Security Council transmitting the First Progress Report of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine (S/1290).
