SUMMARY RECORD OF A MEETING BETWEEN THE COMMITTEE ON JERUSALEM

held Lausanne on Wednesday,
 4 May, 1949 4:00 p.m.

Present:

Mr. Yenisey

Mr. Benoist

(France)

Mr. Barco

(U.S.A.)

Dr. Serup

Secretary of the Committee

Mr. Mohammad Ali Hamade

Representative of Lebanon

The CHAIRMAN welcomed the representative of Lebanon, and gave a brief résumé of the terms of reference of the Jerusalem Committee, its activities up to the present, and the task it was endeavouring to accomplish. He drew attention to the two questionnaires which had been drawn up by the Committee, and handed over copies to the representative of Lebanon, explaining that while they were entirely of an exploratory nature, and could not in any way prejudge the Committee’s final decisions, it would be most helpful to the Committee in its work to receive full and frank replies from all the delegations to the questions contained therein.

Mr. HAMADE thanked the Chairman for his explanation. His Government had already manifested its desire to cooperate fully with the Commission toward positive achievements and a satisfactory solution of all outstanding problems, in particular those concerning the refugees and the status of Jerusalem. It would therefore be a pleasure to his delegation to collaborate with the Committee in its work. He would study the questionnaires with the greatest interest and reply to them as promptly and as fully as possible.
