CABLEGRAM DATED 10 JANUARY 1949 FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE
SECURITY COUNCIL TRUCE COMMISSION ADDRESSED TO THE
PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL TRANSMITTING A
MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF JERUSALEM CONCERNING
THE BOMBING OF JERUSALEM
"Holy City of Jerusalem whose safety is at the heart of the entire world and which even enemy of mankind Nazi Germany dared not attack during World War was subjected twice to indiscriminate bombing by Egyptian planes which hit residential quarters including charitable and medical institutions. Municipal Council of Jerusalem strongly protests against this barbaric action and demands United Nations and civilized world to take immediate strong action against violation of sanctity of city and prevent recurrence of outrage.
My colleagues and I are of the opinion that prompt action for the demilitarization of Jerusalem would eliminate any pretext for the recurrence of such attacks.
