UNITED NATIONS CONCILIATION COMMISSION FOR PALESTINE
COMMITTEE ON JERUSALEM
SUMMARY RECORD OF THE FIFTY-FOURTH MEETING
held in Lausanne on Monday,
29 August 1949, at 11:15 a.m.
Present: |
Mr. Benoist |
(France) |
Chairman |
Mr. Eralp |
(Turkey) |
||
Mr. Barco |
(U.S.A.) |
||
Dr. Serup |
Committee Secretary |
The CHAIRMAN pointed out, with regard to the comments and amendments made by the Commission in its consideration of the report, that it would be desirable to have the Instrument and the Declaration reproduced in final form as two separate documents, since they were to be transmitted to the Secretary-General with separate covering letters.
Mr. BARCO recalled that at the preceding meeting the French delegation had suggested that paragraph 5 of the Introduction to the Report should be cut and only the last sentence retained, in order to avoid any indication that the Committee approved the present territorial situation.
In view of a statement by the CHAIRMAN that his delegation would not insist on its proposal, and of the fact that the Report had been received and adopted without comment by the Commission, Mr. Barco suggested that no further changes in the text should be made by the Committee.
The Committee then reviewed the amendments adopted by the Commission (see SR/92) and agreed that the Secretariat would take charge of correction of typographical errors and necessary improvement in style.
