UN Palestine Commission – Representation of parties – Communication from the Jewish Agency for Palestine

UNITED NATIONS PALESTINE COMMISSION

COMMUNICATION RECEIVED FROM THE JEWISH AGENCY

FOR PALESTINE CONCERNING REPRESENTATION OF PARTIES

AND PUBLIC ORGANISATIONS IN PALESTINE

The following communication, concerning representation of parties and public organisations in Palestine, has been received from the Jewish Agency for Palestine.

THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE
16 East 66th Street

New York 21, N.Y.

March 11, 1948

Dr. Ralph J. Bunche

United Nations Palestine Commission

New York

My dear Bunche:

We have heard from Jerusalem that up to March 7th none of the parties or organizations which the Commission addressed in connection with consultations for the Provisional Council of Government has received your letter, with the exception of the Rabbinical Council (which, incidentally, is a constituent organ of the Vaad Leumi and not the proper subject for a separate approach). It occurs to us, therefore, that postal delays may be holding up this process of consultation.

The Jewish Agency therefore suggests that the advance party of the Commission now in Jerusalem be instructed to approach the parties and organizations concerned and to receive their replies for telegraphic transmission to the Commission here. Our colleagues in Jerusalem strongly favor this course in view of the necessity of avoiding technical delays,

May we know what the Commission thinks of this suggestion.

Yours very sincerely,

Aubrey S. Eban
