ARAB LEAGUE REPLY TO SECURITY COUNCIL
The following message was given to Secretary-General Trygve Lie by Dr. Charles Malik, Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations, at 6 o'clock (D.S.T.) Tuesday, 1 June 1948.
"The Political Committee of the Arab League, which met in Amman, accepted the Security Council's request for a cease-fire for the indicated period. The Political Committee will communicate its detailed reply to the Secretary-General and to the President of the Security Council.
"I am now informing you of their acceptance lest their communication to you be delayed in transmission beyond the six o'clock New York Standard Time Limit.
"The acceptance by the Arab Governments of these proposals proves once more their genuine desire to see peace restored in the Holy Land and a just solution of the Palestine problem arrived at."
